DAy 2 - Team AHHA goes Undefeated...

Ava and Doubles partner, Sonya Shetty, about to watch Heather play on glass court...

Undefeated Thursday!!

On Day 2 of competition at Junior Nationals, Heather and Ava each played three matches, singles and doubles. That was a total of 6 games each (12 total). Neither of them lost one game...Winning all 6 of the matches!!!

Unfortunately, Heather had to play her doubles partner and good friend, Julia Stein, early in the 16 and under singles...We attempted to have this changed, but no luck. Extra pre-match stress going on both sides as not only are we trying to beat an opponent to move on, but we have to beat our good friend impacting their chances to move on. Bottom line was we both play our best, and the best player that day moves ahead.  Oh, to top it off it was live streamed on the Glass court!!!

The match started with Julia in the Zone. It was probably the best I have seen her play. Serves were hard and accurate and she was making the right shots. She got up to a pretty good lead. Heather took a time out...we talked...she breathed....and she started to chip away at the score. She eventually pulled out the game 15-13 with good serves and more consistent shot selection. She continued with good serve choices and shot making winning the second game and the match 15-7... It was a great match, and they were friends again within 30-45 minutes...

Heather will play in the semi finals Friday..

In other matches:

Ava played her first singles match. She played Olivia Solensky from Oregon. She started with some early match jitters, but got into it (remembering ALL the drilling we have done) winning game 1 15-10 and game 2 15-0...Putting her in the Quarterfinals Friday.

Doubles and Mixed doubles were also solid wins...Both are round robin, so we will not know the results until all matches are played.

Heather is playing in the 16 and under singles as well as 14 and under singles (She was last years 14 and under champion)...Her 14 and under singles match was against fellow Northern Californian, Esha Cyril. Esha started very tough, but as Heather got into her groove, she took over . She won the match 15-7 15-0 and will play in the semi finals Friday.

In doubles, she and Julia played NorCal team Estephie and Tess.  Heather and Julia played very tough as a team, winning 15-5 15-0..

Play continues thru Sunday...On Friday Heather and Ava again each have 3 matches.....
