Day 3 - ANOTHER undefeated day for Team AHHA

For the Second Day, Heather and Ava go undefeated for a total of 12 games between them...
Heather had two semi final matches in singles, 14 and unders and 16 and unders. The 16 and unders came first in a rematch of a match she played last year against Erin Slutsky from Missouri. Last year, Heather lost to Erin in a tie breaker in the 16 and unders...This year, she went in with a game plan....Serves were executed the way we planned and shot choice was excellent. No tie breaker this time... Heather won 15-3 15-6 and will play in the final of the 16 and unders against Annie Roberts. A repeat of Nationals two years ago in the 14 and unders when Heather lost in a tie breaker.

In the 14 and unders Heather face Kareena Mathew. This is the first time they have played in singles. They have been on the court in doubles a few times. We really did not have much of a scouting report, and decided to just feel it out, trying several different serves etc... We also wanted to conserve her arm if possible, so wanted to stick with soft serves...She found the serve that worked and did it the rest of the match...She won 15-5 15-10 and will play Ava Kaiser in the 14 and under final Saturday...A repeat of the 12 and under final from two years ago, which Heather won. This will be Heathers 4th Time playing in the 14 and under finals at the Junior Nationals. The first two times she finished second, losing in a tie breaker. Last year she won the Gold.

Heather and doubles partner Julia, had a fairly easy win in doubles. On Saturday they will play the #1 seed (Annie Roberts and Alondra Canchola), which should be for the championship though each team will have one more match.

Ava played in the Quarter finals of the 12 and under singles against Adriana Perez from SoCal...They have met several times and are good friends, off the court. Friendship was put aside for a little bit as they competed...They had some good rallies, with both making great shots etc...Ava did come out ahead 15-6 15-13 and will play in the semi finals against Andrea Perez-Picon from Manteca. They have played several times before with each getting wins.....This will be the semi final, with final on Sunday.

In both girls doubles and Mixed doubles, Ava's teams pretty much went uncontested. A very good chance for Gold in each of those!

As we head into Saturday play,
Team AH-HA still has a chance for 6 Gold medals..

Are you wondering why Team AH-HA?...We used to be Team PVAC, when we played out of Petaluma Valley Athletic Club...With it just being Heather and Ava from my group attending, I went with the "brilliant" idea of using the names as part of the Team name. That would have been really long, so instead of Team Heather and Ava and to give equal top billing, we went with Team AH-HA (aka Ava Heather - Heather Ava),,,
Now you know!!
